About the Works
Although working in the Western figurative tradition, Dimce's
Macedonian heritage links him to the region's unknown artists
that inspired the Rennaisance. Medieval travellers told of
luminous works - burning with holy fire - contained within
Macedonia's monasteries. Largely untrained, these servants of
the Spirit practised art for art's sake.
Initially self taught, Dimce's most recent teachers include Ilija
Minoski and Kiril Gegoski of Prilep, Macedonia. Both have
furthered his aim of achieving optimal expressive force with the
greatest economy of means." Ilija and Kire were able to give me
the push that took me into a new way of seeing; the
conceptualising of a living, vibrating perception of reality," he
says.
He mistrusts however, intellectualism and ego-based art."My
whole journey as an artist has been to become invisible. The
work must be accessable without long-winded explanation. The
artist, drawing upon the images within, must be able to strike the
imagination of the viewer bringing about identification with the
artist's intent", he says.
Dimce has worked in all graphic media but favours charcoal.
His collaboration with Master Printer 'George Coles' employs both
water and oil based inks on heavy rag paper. For the last six
years he has been pre-occupied with portraiture in oils. It is here
that Dimce's great love; the ever unique and beautiful dignity of
the human spirit, finds its expression. It's eternal origins speak
to us through the eyes while it's temporal journey is defined
through the individual features.
Dimce is represented in private collections in Europe, North
America and Australia. For him, there is nothing more
challenging or exciting than creating art. Confronting one's self
in the creative process is not for the timid or faint-hearted, for it is a
cauldron of fire that transforms and allows the true artist to go
beyond himself and to become a server of hearts.
What is it then, that is able to touch the human heart, to move
and change our lives? Or the mystery that connects one human
life to another? "These are the questions," says Dimce, "that
thrill and inspire me to create art."
